Position Description
The Department is seeking an outstanding historian specializing in Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, with broad competency to teach Pre-Socratics, Plato, Aristotle, Hellenistic, and Roman philosophers. We are seeking a scholar who complements our research expertise, which extends across a spectrum of work in analytic philosophy, history of philosophy, and continental philosophy, and includes strengths in philosophy of the sciences, philosophy of values, and philosophy of human identity and difference. We also seek a strong teacher who will contribute to our teaching strengths, be active in our graduate program, and be capable of developing and renewing our curriculum. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Duties include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution.

Qualifications and Assets
Candidates must have completed their PhD in Philosophy or be near completion at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The selected candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates strong research successes and potential for innovative and ground-breaking research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals in their letter of application. Since this position supports academic functions of the university, proficiency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is an asset.
