The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University invites applications for the position of Nancy Schaenen Endowed Visiting Scholar of Ethics to begin in August 2024. This is a two-year term position with an option to extend for a third year by mutual agreement.

Second, to share their research expertise to engage intellectually with the DePauw community. This could include public lectures, arranging symposia, hosting visiting scholars, leading faculty reading groups, serving as a guest lecturer in a class, and so on. Third, to assist with the educational and academic aspects of our student internship programs, by providing training and mentorship to student interns. Fourth, to help manage various aspects of the Institute’s programming, including reviewing paper submissions, course proposals, and funding proposals.

We seek a scholar with a strong background and record of accomplishment and/or promise in ethics. A Ph.D. (by the time of appointment) is required. This position offers the benefits of time and resources for research and comes with a professional development budget. It also provides valuable administrative experience that should enable the successful candidate to contribute to or start another ethics center or program. Regular interaction with DePauw’s students will help develop the visiting scholar’s teaching, advising, and mentoring skills.

The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics provides a compelling physical space and a distinctive forum for DePauw students, faculty, and staff that fosters ethics education, research, and dialogue. The Institute also has a national outreach mission to promote and encourage deep and careful thinking about ethical issues of immediate or perennial concern.
