POLICY ON STATEMENT-MAKING
MAP’s mission is to examine and address issues of minority participation in academic philosophy. We are committed to working to improve department cultures and facilitate increased participation of underrepresented groups in philosophy. In order to support minority-focused initiatives, MAP chapters may want to issue public statements on current issues. Chapters are welcome to write statements that are consonant with MAP’s mission. We recommend that chapters check in with their co-organizers and members before putting forth a statement under their chapters’ names, and that they only issue statements that represent the majority or consensus views of local members. The views and opinions expressed by chapters are those of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of MAP International.
MAP International does not make public statements about specific events in the profession. However, organizers for MAP International are free to endorse statements in their personal capacity.

POLICY ON BRIEFS, REPORTS, PROPOSALS, AND HOW-TO GUIDES
In accordance with MAP’s mission, MAP International will sometimes write briefs, reports, proposals, and how-to guides. Unlike statements, these documents do not address specific events or individuals. Instead, they are meant to provide guidance for institutions that aim to address common challenges for diversity and inclusion in philosophy.
Drafts of these documents will be circulated to chapter representatives before publishing, giving representatives a period of at least a week to provide feedback. We encourage chapter representatives to offer constructive feedback on these documents, but we may not be able to take into account all the feedback we receive. Like other professional organizations, such as the APA, MAP International’s views don’t necessarily reflect those of individual chapters or their members. We welcome suggestions from MAP members for topics they would like MAP International to explore in policy briefs and proposals.
