Senior-level Professor - Ethnic and Race Studies
Position Category: Faculty FLSA: Exempt FTE: .75 Location: Thousand Oaks University Background: Basic Function: The Ethnic and Race Studies (ERS ) Program at California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) seeks to hire at the associate or full professor level to develop and direct new major, minor and certificate programs in Ethnic and Race Studies starting fall of 2020. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a social science or humanities field with expertise in race and ethnic studies, and be committed to teaching, research, and service at a liberal arts university that is a Hispanic Serving and McNair institution. Successful candidates will provide evidence of excellence in teaching and advising of undergraduate students. In addition to formal teaching and course development experience, evidence of a strong commitment to developing a research program involving undergraduate students and previous mentoring of undergraduate research projects is highly sought. The new ERS program at Cal Lutheran is academically rigorous, methodologically inclusive, interdisciplinary, and seeks to promote co-curricular learning on campus and in the surrounding communities. The ERS program specializes in multicultural learning experiences and social justice projects that involve and engage local communities. In collaboration with other College departments, the Center for Equality and Justice and Hispanic-Serving Institute Initiatives, the ERS program promotes innovative student and faculty research in national and transnational contexts in and around Cal Lutheran. A full-teaching load is usually three courses per academic semester and six per academic year. Primary teaching responsibilities will likely include the development of the following courses: Introduction to Ethnic and Race Studies and the program's capstone/field work. Additional opportunities to develop new courses and to teach in other departments will be based on the successful candidate's expertise and interest. It is essential that candidates possess the ability or potential to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students, particularly those from diverse, minoritized, and underserved backgrounds. Candidates must also demonstrate an interest and ability to develop co-curricular programing to promote deeper understanding of racial and ethnic diversities and intersectionality on campus and in the community. Minimum Qualifications: Eligible applicants must have a Ph.D. officially conferred by an accredited, degree-granting university.
