Position Description
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Chicago invites applications for a position as Associate or Full Professor to begin July 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. We welcome applications in any of the following areas of specialization: (1) Metaphysics, (2) Nonwestern Philosophy, (3) Social and Political Philosophy (including Philosophy of Race or Gender), (4) Ancient Greek and Roman Metaphysics, or (5) Early Modern Philosophy. Minimum teaching load for the position will be four courses per year over three quarters, at graduate and undergraduate levels, and usual dissertation, committee, and advising responsibilities. Qualifications We seek a colleague with an ambitious research agenda yielding active and innovative scholarship, characterized by originality of standpoint, depth and significance of analysis, cogency of argument, and knowledge of relevant languages and literatures. Successful applicants will contribute to the scholarly community of the department and university and will have the ability to be an excellent teacher in the university’s Core Curriculum, in introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in Philosophy, and in graduate courses related to their area of expertise. A PhD in Philosophy or a related field is required.
