Summary of Duties
The Marywood University Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Philosophy to begin August 2022. Area of Specialization should be in Social and Political Philosophy, with expertise in Climate Justice or Environmental Justice and the ability to contribute to our university’s new Environmental Studies program. Area of Competence is open, with preference given to candidates who can teach courses and advise students in our department’s Certificate Program in Bioethics (including our course on Healthcare and Social Justice). We would also view candidates favorably whose teaching or research intersects with Latinx Studies and/or Black Studies. We encourage applications from candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational and work environment. Responsibilities include teaching in Marywood University’s new Core curriculum. Course load will include both Introduction to Philosophy and upper-level undergraduate courses in one’s areas of specialization or competence. Additional duties include student advisement, commitment to scholarly research, and participation in department, university, and professional service. Full-time teaching load is 4/3. Summer online teaching opportunities are available. Requirements Educational Required: Ph.D. in Philosophy (ABD considered). Area of Specialization in Social and Political Philosophy, with a focus in Climate Justice or Environmental Justice. Candidates must be able to articulate how they will carry out Marywood’s Mission and Core Values through their teaching and service. Preferred: Prior college teaching experience. Online teaching experience. Competence in Bioethics. Teaching or research intersects with Latinx Studies and/or Black Studies.
