POSITION: The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts at Colorado State University invites applications for the Inaugural Endowed Willette Professor of Philosophy (open rank). While primary teaching and research responsibilities will be within the Department of Philosophy, this position will support campus interdisciplinary efforts in Religious Studies.
In addition to or as part of the usual teaching and research obligations, the position will require engagement with local or regional communities; the precise form taken by this outreach will be subject to negotiation with the candidate. This position supports CSU’s commitment to engaged scholarship, in accordance with CSU’s land grant mission, and will involve making intentional connection between faculty activity – teaching, research, and service – and the public in ways that respond to community interests and concerns. Candidates should address in their application materials how they intend to engage with local or regional communities, and how this engagement relates to their research and teaching agendas. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the Catholic philosophical and theological traditions, research interests informed by that understanding, and an enthusiasm for sharing this knowledge and research with diverse student and community groups. As CSU is a state institution, there is no requirement that the individual taking this position have a personal commitment to the Catholic Faith. The teaching load is 2-2. THE DEPARTMENT: The Department includes approximately 135 undergraduate majors and minors in Philosophy and 13-15 Masters students in the terminal M.A. degree program. With faculty from a wide variety of areas in philosophy, the department has internationally recognized strengths in applied ethics and global philosophies, particularly Islamic, South Asian, and East Asian philosophies. The department has historically supported a broad and inclusive approach to philosophy and its three undergraduate concentrations include one in Global Philosophies and Religions.
