Department Description:
The Philosophy Department at USD is pluralistic, which means it covers all significant historical periods and most major philosophical methods. It has a deep and special concern for the study of ethics, values and the moral life. The Philosophy Department offers a comprehensive program of study leading to a BA in Philosophy and to a minor in philosophy, while offering a broad range of courses as part of the University's Core Curriculum. The department also regularly offers courses for majors and minors in the central areas of philosophy and a range of special topics courses. The full-time faculty represent diverse approaches and interests and are engaged in a wide range of teaching, research and service activities. Department faculty are also regularly involved in offering interdisciplinary special topic team-taught courses. Detailed Description: The Department of Philosophy at the University of San Diego invites applicants for a tenure track, assistant professor position in Political and Social Philosophy, with a strong background of work at the intersection of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) starting in Fall 2020. The position will be in philosophy, but the successful candidate will be affiliated with USD's Center for Ethics, Economics, and Public Policy, and will be expected to teach regularly in USD's developing program in PPE. Position begins Sept. 1, 2020. Two semester academic term. 3/3 teaching load is normal (all levels undergraduate). Teaching in the core curriculum is expected, as is an active research program. Usual non-teaching service duties. Job Requirements: Ph.D. prior to appointment is required. Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
