The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy at the assistant professor level. Exceptionally well-qualified applicants at higher levels may also be considered. We are seeking candidates committed to a career in research and teaching excellence in the broad area of value theory, including bioethics, climate ethics, empirical ethics, ethics of computing, and philosophy of race and gender. Caltech is a world-renowned institute of science and engineering, committed to innovative research and teaching that prepares students to address fundamental social and technological challenges. The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) within Caltech embraces interdisciplinary scholarship across a range of fields, including English, Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Visual Cultures. We especially welcome candidates whose scholarship, perspective, and experiences contribute to the diversity of the Division and who share Caltech’s commitment to pedagogy that engages, motivates, and supports students from all backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four seminar-based undergraduate courses per year and to maintain a high level of research excellence. The appointment is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D. degree.
