Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Yale University (AOS: Applied Ethics or Social/Political Philosophy)

11/10/2020

Location: New Haven, CT
Open Date: Nov 5, 2020

Description

The Yale Department of Philosophy intends to make one tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2021.

AOS: Applied ethics or social/political philosophy, construed broadly to include any area of philosophy dealing with normative matters relating to issues of social significance, including philosophy of race.

AOC: Open.

Yale has a wide variety of interdisciplinary programs and initiatives that deal with ethical questions: an undergraduate ethics, politics, and economics (EPE) program, a planetary solutions project dealing with climate change and the environment, an interdisciplinary center for bioethics, and others. We’re also hoping to develop a collaboration between the philosophy and computer science departments focusing on ethical issues raised by modern technology. A successful candidate will be able to participate in one or more such programs.

Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent terminal degree is required at time of hire.

Application Instructions
Required application materials: a curriculum vitae (CV), cover letter, writing sample, research statement, teaching statement, sample syllabi, and a minimum of three reference letters from outside Yale.

Contact:  Julie Niemeyer, Assistant to the Chair Julie.niemeyer@yale.edu
