Tenure-track, assistant professor position in Philosophy beginning Fall 2021. Appointment at higher rank is also possible for qualified candidates. The area of specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates with teaching competence in one or more of the following areas: nineteenth- and twentieth-century Continental philosophy, non-Western philosophy, philosophy of race, feminist philosophy, philosophy of sex and gender, and environmental philosophy.
Located in the Hudson Valley two hours north of New York City, Bard has established a reputation for excellence in undergraduate teaching, outstanding programs in the arts, and innovative educational programs beyond the undergraduate college such as the Bard Prison Initiative and the Clemente Course in the Humanities. The academic life of the college focuses on undergraduate teaching in small, intensive seminars; creative general education programs that build communities of learning among diverse student populations; innovative collaborations between faculty in teaching and research; and close relationships between faculty and students, culminating in the senior project, a major piece of independent work completed by all graduates. Bard is also a founding member of OSUN (the Open Society University Network), an international consortium of institutions stretching across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, whose goal is to facilitate transnational collaboration among students and faculty and to enhance access to higher education among underserved populations. The Saint Mary’s University Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will have a PhD in philosophy (in hand or with a defense date set), and should show potential for excellence in research and teaching.
AOS: Philosophy of law, political philosophy, or social philosophy broadly construed (so as to include, e.g., feminist theory or critical race theory).
AOC: Open, but the department has teaching needs in critical thinking and/or legal reasoning, bioethics, environmental ethics, and feminist philosophy.
The department is currently in the process of developing a Law and Philosophy major to complement our existing major, honours, minor, and masters programs in philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the Law and Philosophy major and to teach courses that strengthen it.
The standard teaching load is five courses per year, with a one-course release in the first two years of the appointment.

AOS: Applied ethics or social/political philosophy, construed broadly to include any area of philosophy dealing with normative matters relating to issues of social significance, including philosophy of race.
Yale has a wide variety of interdisciplinary programs and initiatives that deal with ethical questions: an undergraduate ethics, politics, and economics (EPE) program, a planetary solutions project dealing with climate change and the environment, an interdisciplinary center for bioethics, and others. We’re also hoping to develop a collaboration between the philosophy and computer science departments focusing on ethical issues raised by modern technology. A successful candidate will be able to participate in one or more such programs.

Senior-level Professor - Ethnic and Race Studies

The Ethnic and Race Studies (ERS) Program at California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) seeks to hire at the associate or full professor level to develop and direct new major, minor and certificate programs in Ethnic and Race Studies starting fall of 2021. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a social science or humanities field with expertise in race and ethnic studies, and be committed to teaching, research, and service at a liberal arts university that is a Hispanic Serving and McNair institution. Successful candidates will provide evidence of excellence in teaching and advising of undergraduate students. In addition to formal teaching and course development experience, evidence of a strong commitment to developing a research program involving undergraduate students and previous mentoring of undergraduate research projects is highly sought.
The new ERS program at Cal Lutheran is academically rigorous, methodologically inclusive, interdisciplinary, and seeks to promote co-curricular learning on campus and in the surrounding communities. The ERS program specializes in multicultural learning experiences and social justice projects that involve and engage local communities. In collaboration with other College departments, the Center for Equality and Justice and Hispanic-Serving Institute Initiatives, the ERS program promotes innovative student and faculty research in national and transnational contexts in and around Cal Lutheran.
A full-teaching load is usually three courses per academic semester and six per academic year. Primary teaching responsibilities will likely include the development of the following courses: Introduction to Ethnic and Race Studies and the program's capstone/field work. Additional opportunities to develop new courses and to teach in other departments will be based on the successful candidate's expertise and interest. It is essential that candidates possess the ability or potential to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students, particularly those from diverse, minoritized, and underserved backgrounds. Candidates must also demonstrate an interest and ability to develop co-curricular programing to promote deeper understanding of racial and ethnic diversities and intersectionality on campus and in the community. Diversity and Teaching Statement: This 2-3 page statement should first address the candidate’s philosophy of and commitment to teaching and diversity. The statement should discuss teaching and diversity with respect to mentoring and engaging students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds, adapting teaching methods to the needs of underrepresented ethnic minority students and first generation college students, and any experience with and/or interest in mentoring student research.
