MAP will host a Group Session at the Eastern APA with the theme "Skill Building and Improving the Profession." We are seeking proposals for mini-workshops or advice sessions related to this theme. The sessions should focus on giving concrete, practical advice, and we also encourage submissions that discuss how you set up and ran a specific initiative or event. Topics could include but are not limited to diversifying syllabi, inclusive pedagogy, tips for dealing with service work, improving departmental climate and culture, etc. Each session will last for about 20 minutes, followed by Q&A.
We particularly encourage submissions by members of under-represented groups in philosophy and by people at all stages of their career. Proposals should be no more than 1,000 words and should be sent as a PDF to [email protected] with the subject line "Eastern APA Submission" by October 31, 2018. You will hear back from us by mid-November. You can contact us at [email protected] with any questions! Further information: MAP (Minorities and Philosophy) is a collection of students in philosophy departments that aims to examine and address issues of minority participation in academic philosophy. Though primarily led by graduate students, MAP also relies on faculty support and encourages undergraduate participation. Currently, MAP has 110 chapters throughout the world, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Hungary, and South Africa. The Eastern APA will be held in New York, at the Sheraton New York Times Square, January 7-10 2019. Our session will be on Wednesday, January 9, 7-10 pm.
