Visiting Assistant Professor of Applied Ethics
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a three-year visiting assistant professor of applied ethics, appointment beginning July 1, 2015. This position has the possibility of continuation to a ten-year contract track pending future funding. We seek candidates with broad teaching competence in applied ethics, and with specialization in one or more areas of applied ethics, such as but not limited to environmental ethics, including food and agriculture ethics, technology ethics, organizational/leadership ethics, or ethics of global resources and interventions. Candidates whose work is interdisciplinary and involves or intersects with work in the social, cognitive or natural sciences, the arts or humanities, or experimental philosophy approaches to ethics, are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to contribute to interdisciplinary undergraduate teaching, advising, and program-building with our Ethics and the Common Good initiative, and serve on the advisory committee for the initiative. An interest in integrating community engaged learning activities and projects in courses is also a plus. The successful applicant will be expected to teach two courses per semester and supervise independent student work.
