The Department of Philosophy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2025 with specialization in the field of ethics and competence in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). Ability to teach normative ethics is a plus. We seek candidates with strong research potential who are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and identify with the mission of UMBC, in particular concerning furthering the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
UMBC is a dynamic and growing public research university located in the Baltimore-Washington Corridor. The university is a Carnegie Research 1, community-engaged institution, with a diverse student population of 14,148 graduate and undergraduate students. The Philosophy Department currently has 10 full-time faculty, a very active undergraduate philosophy club, and an award-winning ethics bowl team. The person appointed will teach 5 courses a year, distributed over two preps each semester.
