The Department of Philosophy at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a Tenure track, open rank, Professor of Teaching position to begin July ,1, 2025. Philosophy of law, any areas in normative jurisprudence. Social and Political Philosophy. The successful candidate will contribute to and revitalize our interdisciplinary Law and Society program and will teach courses central to that curriculum, such as LWSO100. A Ph.D. in Philosophy required by the time of the appointment. Deadline: The position is open until filled, but review of applications will begin December 12, 2024. Duties: The position requires teaching 6 courses per year on the quarter system, typically a 2-2-2, participating in the direction of the Law and Society program, pre-law advising, and standard non-teaching duties. All candidates must show evidence of excellence in teaching and evidence of active engagement with the field through research, service, or creative activity. Most importantly, candidates for tenured professor must have an established track record of distinction in teaching and active engagement in the field through research, service, or creative activities. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. In UCR’s Professor of Teaching ranks, candidates are expected to introduce intellectual fields to students, train students in more advanced studies in their areas of interest, and foster students’ intellectual independence, creativity, and reasoning abilities, and arouse curiosity.
