Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Philosophy beginning August 2025. The rank will be Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on qualifications. Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate degree.

Areas of specialization open, with research competencies in epistemology and/or social/political philosophy. We are interested in candidates who could offer courses on philosophical perspectives on data science; cognitive science; feminist philosophy; moral psychology; and/or other areas that would complement the department's curriculum.

In addition, the candidate would offer courses that build on the Department's offerings along with contributions in the College's general education program, Connections. Faculty maintain active research programs and contribute to the College's shared governance.

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2025 with specialization in the field of ethics and competence in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). Ability to teach normative ethics is a plus. We seek candidates with strong research potential who are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and identify with the mission of UMBC, in particular concerning furthering the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

The person appointed will teach 5 courses a year, distributed over two preps each semester. Postdoctoral Instructor, California Institute of Technology

The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Instructor to begin in time for Caltech’s fall term 2025. We welcome applications from candidates working in the field of philosophy of science (broadly construed) and closely related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two (approximately ten-week) undergraduate courses in the first year of their appointment and three undergraduate courses in their second year. The appointment is contingent upon completion of the Ph.D.

The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor to serve as a core faculty member in our thriving Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Program and to take a leading role in developing and expanding the PPE Program and the PPE Society.   The position will begin on July 1, 2025.  The successful candidate will likely have a primary appointment in the Philosophy Department, which houses the PPE Program and the PPE Society, although appointment in either Political Science or Public Policy is a possibility, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to make one appointment, at either the level of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor or Tenured Associate Professor, to begin July 1, 2025 (although start date is negotiable). AOS and AOC open, but with an emphasis on medieval philosophy, early modern philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of race and/or gender, metaphysics, and non-Western philosophy.

Significant promise of research excellence is a necessary condition for consideration, as is evidence of significant skills in teaching. Full-Time, Academic-Year, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, California Polytechnic State University

The Philosophy Department in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State  University, San Luis Obispo, California, is seeking applications for a full-time, academic-year,  tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 11, 2025. Area of Specialization (AOS):  Kant or German Idealism. Area of Concentration (AOC): History of Philosophy before Kant.  Special additional teaching needs: Early Modern Philosophy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, or  Medieval Philosophy.  
The ideal candidate will have a combination of university-level teaching experience and research  potential. We are seeking applicants with an earned or nearly complete Ph.D. in philosophy, with  demonstrable qualifications in Kant or German Idealism (Ph.D. must be complete by the date of  appointment). Primary teaching duties include a course on Kant and 19th Century Philosophy for philosophy majors as well as general education. Depending on department teaching needs and  the candidates teaching interests, the successful candidate would also teach other courses in the  history of philosophy, such as Early Modern Philosophy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, or  Medieval Philosophy. The successful candidate will be able to include traditionally marginalized  voices in their teaching of the history of philosophy. 
Salary: Anticipated Hiring Range: $81,888 - $87,550/year, $6,824-$7,296/month  
(Note that hiring level will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the  candidate.) 

Although Cal Poly is primarily a teaching university, our faculty are expected to balance  teaching with an active program of research/professional development (including publication),  student supervision and advising, and participation in service activities at the department and  college/university level. The typical teaching load is 12 units (three courses) per quarter, with a  reduction in course load in each of the first two years to help new faculty establish an active  program of research and professional development.
