Job Description: The Department of Philosophy at Le Moyne College invites applications for a non-tenure track one-year position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor with an area of specialization (AOS) in Social Epistemology or related fields and an area of competence (AOC) in the philosophy of race or of feminisms. The position, contingent upon budgetary and administrative approval, has a proposed appointment start date of August 22, 2025. The successful candidate will teach courses that appeal to a variety of undergraduate students and offer courses in our Core Curriculum. The annual teaching load is seven courses. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D. in philosophy by position start date, but ABD will be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, and have an active agenda of high-quality research. Directed by Barry Lam, Associate Director of Marc Sanders Foundation, Professor of Philosophy at UC Riverside, and Host/Executive producer of the Hi-Phi Nation Podcast, Philosophy in Media aims to identify and develop academically-trained philosophers to write, speak to, and produce for the general public in the major media market spaces. We concluded a year-long initial run of the program here with support from the John D. Templeton Foundation. Now, with a three-year grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and generous funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and Princeton University’s Center for Human Values and the Department of Philosophy, we are pleased to share that we are now accepting applications for our second year of fellowships in 2025. Fellows will be academically-trained philosophers of all career stages who aim to write, speak to, and produce media for the general public in the form of essays (long- and short-form), trade-book writing, or podcasting.

Fellows will be accepted from all areas of philosophy, but should indicate both their professional areas of specialization and competence, as well as the topics or areas they would like to talk about when they speak to the public. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose professional or public-facing work focuses on race and racism, social justice, applied ethics of biology, technology, or other special sciences, and to applicants who are affiliated with HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, Tribal colleges/universities, or underserved/under-resourced smaller regional or state schools. Successful fellows will receive a $1500 stipend and full room and board at one of our three media workshops, to be held between June 23 – July 1, 2025. Workshops will be held at Tarrytown Estates in Tarrytown, NY, just north of New York City. One workshop will focus on essay writing (short- and long-form), one on trade books and publication, and one on podcast production and distribution. All will be led by esteemed media editors, producers, publishers, and agents. Confirmed workshop leaders will be announced in the spring. Each workshop will be three days long. Travel to and from the venue will be covered by Media Fellows. The schedule of the workshops are organized as follows: • June 23-June 25, 2025: Essay Writing (Short- and Long-form) Fellows will arrive the evening of June 22 and depart after the workshop concludes on June 25 at noon. • June 26-June 28, 2025: Trade Books and Publication Fellows will arrive the evening of June 25 and depart after the workshop concludes on June 28 at noon. • June 29 -July 1, 2025: Podcasting and Production Fellows will arrive the evening of June 28 and depart after the workshop concludes on July 1 at noon. Position Summary: Rollins College invites applications for the position of Director of our African & African American Studies (AAAS) program. This is an open-rank faculty position with the possibility of hiring at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Area of specialization is open. AAAS is an interdisciplinary program that offers an undergraduate minor. Our affiliated faculty have disciplinary homes in a variety of Rollins departments, including Anthropology, Art & Art History, Critical Media & Cultural Studies, English, History, Philosophy & Religion, Political Science, and Sociology. We welcome applicants from these fields and others, including interdisciplinary fields such as African American Studies, Black Studies, and Africana Studies. AAAS faculty are committed to antiracist education and academic freedom. The AAAS curriculum emphasizes the diversity and complexity of Africa and the African diaspora; the enduring impacts of imperialism, colonialism, and slavery; the centrality of race to U.S. history; and the various ways that intellectuals, artists, and social movements have resisted oppression and inequality. Rollins faculty teach a 3/3 load. The director will teach AAAS 101 (a required course for our minors), courses in their home department, and general education courses in their areas of expertise The Director's administrative responsibilities include advising AAAS minors; approving interdisciplinary course offerings; chairing meetings of program faculty; hosting guest speakers, film screenings, and other campus events; and supervising a dedicated work-study student who can assist the director with various tasks. This position is also public facing. The director is encouraged to cultivate long-term relationships with community organizations and to identify experiential learning opportunities for our minors. Regional news media will periodically solicit the director's commentary on issues affecting African Americans in central Florida. Rollins is currently engaged in an ambitious multi-year DEIB strategic plan. The director will support the college's efforts to develop a high school recruitment pipeline and bridge programs for our undergrads from underrepresented groups.
