Job Posting: Assistant Professor (TT) at Elon University

The Philosophy Department of Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Philosophy, beginning mid-August 2019.

We seek a candidate, Ph.D. in hand or with defense date firmly set, whose teaching is organic to their philosophical life and who would expand, complement and enrich the Philosophy Department’s areas of expertise and long-standing focus on innovative, engaged, praxis-oriented pedagogy. AOS: Open, but preference for Social/Ethical/Political Thought, very broadly understood.
AOC: History of Philosophy.

We are open to many possible ways into this AOS and AOC combination, including, but definitely not limited to: critical race theory, Prison Studies, Philosophy and the City, Disability Studies, Trans-Studies, Africana Philosophy, Environmental Justice, Democratic Theory.

Teaching responsibility will include 6 classes per year, typically including 4 introductory level classes and 2 upper level classes (one with an explicitly historical theme), and will include some courses in Elon’s General Studies program. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
