AOS: Ethics (with some substantive engagement with normative ethics)

AOC: Open with preference for Early Modern Ethics, Medieval Ethics, or Kant’s Ethics

The John and Daria Barry Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship is a one-year position with possible renewal for an additional year. The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank of Instructor, and the position will begin August 31, 2020. The John and Daria Barry Foundation Fellow will pursue their research under the mentorship of a Department of Philosophy faculty member, will teach at least one philosophy course each year (and no more than two courses), help to organize and participate in the Practical Philosophy Workshop, and participate in extra-curricular programming in moral philosophy.
This is a full-time position with salary and benefits.

Qualifications 

The successful candidate will have an active research agenda in ethics, some serious engagement with normative questions, some background in the history of moral philosophy, interest in philosophical pedagogy for students who want to integrate intellectual and personal development, and a willingness to participate in a lively intellectual community. We especially seek candidates with a specialty in Early Modern Ethics, Medieval Ethics, or Kant’s Ethics.

To be eligible for this position: (1) all requirements for the doctoral degree in Philosophy must be completed no later than the start date of the appointment: August 31, 2020; (2) individuals must have no more than five years of cumulative experience working in a research university following receipt of the PhD.
